One of the prairie chickens most prominent features are the orange air sacks on the neck of the chicken (males only). The air sacks are covered by feathers on the neck of the chicken. When the chicken performs its mating call it exposes the air sacks and makes a booming noise. Another feature on the male used for attracting a mate is its bright orange eye brows. The life span of a prairie chicken ranges from 2 to 3 years.
