The Greater Praire Chicken has a lot to worry about. The major threat to them is the weather. In the winter they can tunnel down in the snow, and the snow then insulates them. They have to worry about droughts and spring rain. The rain can cool the chicks down so much that they will actually die. Also, the rain can destroy their food and habitat. The droughts would prevent the chickens food from growing, resulting in them starving to death. Even though the weather is their major threat, they can still be picked off by red tailed hawks, owls, skunks, coyotes, opossums, foxes, raccoons and even snakes.
